Blogging for the Truth
In an age of unending visual communications and shortened attention spans, largely thanks to the pervasive influence of TV, for many writing was well on it’s way to becoming a lost art form. That is until the blog was born.
Now countless bloggers the world over are honing their writing skills in the hope of appealing to a worldwide audience or perhaps just to vent their rage about an unfair imperfect world order.
Few will make it to the big time , where an audience of hundreds of thousands, perhaps many millions, will be waiting for every new word from the author, but some will succeed at the highest level and develop a devoted worldwide following of fans. Get ready for the blog super stars.
There will be those who will be able to develop a worldwide publishing empire that would have been impossible to achieve in the pre Internet age. Never in the history of mankind has an individual with only a modest investment for a computer, an Internet connection, and perhaps a domain name, had the opportunity to reach so many people the world over at so little of a cost of distribution.
Surely, the success of the blog will influence our lives in many ways yet unforeseen. Clever and skilled writers will weld a great deal of influence in this new world of the written word. This is a threat to established means of information distribution and to the politicians and governments of the world who choose to spin their own version of reality rather than to release factual information.
I doubt that true conditions in any part of the world can be long hidden from armies of bloggers. That is unless governments start to severely suppress the freedom of the Internet. Blocking technology is already well developed and could be employed by repressive, fearful governments. All under the guise of national security, of course.
How all of this Blogging mania will play out will be interesting to watch. And even more interesting to take part in.
Like it are not we are all going to be influenced one way or the other by the ability of individuals to achieve worldwide distribution of their views, the truth as they see it, research, beliefs, self serving half truths, full blown lies , and biased statements so we had best prepare ourselves for the onslaught of information and misinformation that is sure to follow.
The truth may indeed set us free but it is going to be more difficult than ever to know what the truth is. However, I do expect that the truth will be better served by the blogger than by traditional media companies who face increasing pressures of various sorts to publish official accounts of what’s going on in the world rather than raw news and facts. At the beginning of the 21st century spinning has become quite an art form.Â
