State of the Union

State of the Union Address Jan. 24, 2007

President Bush completed his State of the Union address about one hour ago.

Uninspiring is my first reaction to the speech. The President looked and spoke in rather subdued terms. I didn’t hear anything new that has even a remote chance of inspiring the American public to give the President additional support for his “surge” in Iraq or for his domestic policies.

The President is trying his best to drum up support for a failed policy in Iraq which has overshadowed everything else in his presidency. His new Iraq plan is little more than a desperate attempt to shift blame for the mess in Iraq to the Iraqis. Bush has destablised the entire region and will not even take responsibility for his actions.

One can only hope that America somehow gets through the next two years without an increasing disaster in Iraq but I wouldn’t count on it.

As bad as the situation is the likelihood is that under President Bush’s leadership it will only get worst.
