What To See At The National Transport Museum
The National Transport Museum houses several vehicles – the oldest being an 1883 model and the latest a 1984 model. The museum has five divisions representing the five types of vehicles displayed in the museum. The categories are Passenger, Commercial, Fire and Emergency, Military and Utility vehicles.
Visitors to the “Passengers†area are welcomed by Dublin’s old trams, trolleybuses, buses, and coaches. These buses are as old as 1945. In the “Commercial†division, visitors can explore vehicles from 1927 to 1970. It is impressive how these vehicles are preserved in their original form.
At the Military area, visitors are able to witness several World War II vehicles. These vehicles were used in Ireland’s defense force. In this area, visitors can well reminisce Ireland’s nationalistic era. The Fire and Emergency area, on the other hand, houses 18th century pumps. There are gulley emptiers, tower wagons and road rollers on the Utility Area.
Dublin’s National Transport Museum is home to vehicles of the past and the present. They may not be heroes, but they certainly are a part of Dublin’s history. When you talk about history, vehicles are always deemed important. This is due to the fact that they carry with them the history and story of the era they belong to.
