Ron Paul Freedom Principals

August 19th, 2007 by travelwell

There is one Congressman in Washington D.C. who has maintained his integrity while working in Washington, D.C. He is concerned about the sea of recklessness, lack of discipline, corruption, and abuse of power that has engulfed our nation.

That lonely Congressman is Dr. Ron Paul, a US House of Representatives member from the 14th District of Texas. Paul’s freedom principals are as follows:

1.) Rights belong to individuals, not groups.
2.) Property should be owned by people, not government.
3.) All voluntary associations should be permissible — economic and social.
4.) The government’s monetary role is to maintain the integrity of the monetary unit, not participate in fraud.
5.) Government exists to protect liberty, not to redistribute wealth or to grant special privileges.
6.) The lives and actions of people are their own responsibility, not the government’s.

If you feel that the US in recent years has varied off course with its domestic and foreign policies then you need to listen and read about Ron Paul. Paul is running for President as a Republican, but as an old fashioned one, not one of the new slick say anything for a vote modern variety.

Ron Paul was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Gettysburg College and the Duke University School of Medicine, before proudly serving as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s. He and his wife Carol moved to Texas in 1968, where he began his medical practice in Brazoria County.

Russia Starts Air Patrols

August 18th, 2007 by travelwell

Russia is restarting air patrols and working hard to beef up its military while the powers that be in Washington, DC assure us that there is no danger of reentering a cold war. Do these geniuses really expect Russia and other nations to stand quietly by as the US spends as much annually on its military as the rest of the world combined?

From the Russian point of view the United States has been pretty darn aggressive with its military over the past six years. Not only have we moved to grab Iraq and to build permanent bases in the Middle East we plan to build missile systems close to Russian borders.

Russian President Putin says “We have decided to restore flights by Russian strategic aviation on a permanent basis,” Mr Putin told reporters at joint military exercises with China and four Central Asian states in Russia’s Ural mountains.

“In 1992, Russia unilaterally ended flights by its strategic aircraft to distant military patrol areas. Unfortunately, our example was not followed by everyone,” Mr Putin said, in an apparent reference to the US.

Note that the Russians and Chinese are conducting joint military operations. As noted recently the resource wars are already underway and will become much more severe over the next ten years. The rest of the world is not going to stand by while the US seeks to dominate the distribution of vital natural resources.

Look out for World War Three.

US Intervention in Iraq

August 11th, 2007 by travelwell

The following excerpt is from The Tenuous Case for Strategic Patience in Iraq, A Trip Report, by Anthony H. Cordesman, Arleigh A. Burke Chair in Strategy, at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Mr Cordesman made a trip to Iraq prior to publishing his report. To see the full report in PFD format go here.

“The US intervention in Iraq has driven more than two million Iraqis out of the country, including much of its most educated and professional citizens. It has displaced over two million more Iraqis inside Iraq, many of which have lost their homes and their businesses and jobs. Estimates of the total percent of underemployment and unemployment exceed 50% in virtually all of the country.

The number of Iraqi civilian dead now total at least 100,000, and no one knows how many have been wounded. Basic services, infrastructure, and security do not exist in many areas, and sectarian and ethnic cleansing continue in much of the country, including the area around Baghdad and virtually every area with mixed Sunni and Shi’ite populations.

Various estimates put the number of Iraqis that have suffered severe hardship as a result of the war and its aftermath at close to 8 million and rising — although such estimates are really “guesstimates” at best.”

One has to wonder how these facts will compare to the almost certain rosy assessment of conditions in Iraq soon to be delivered by the ever optimistic and career advancement ambitious General David Petraeus. I guess that in September when the General’s report is due we will know.

Carlos Slim Richest Man Anywhere

August 7th, 2007 by travelwell

What ever happened to poor Bill Gates?

Long accustomed to being the richest man in the world he has been nosed out for the prestigious title by a relatively unknown Mexican fellow, Carlos Slim. Slim is estimated to have a net worth of 59 billion while the better know Chairman of Microsoft has to settle for only 58 billion.

So who is Carlos Slim and how did he become so wealthy? To get the full story read this article You will quickly realize that Carlos Slim didn’t become the wealthiest man on earth because of luck. The guy is a very smart investor and businessman.

One of his sayings that I especially like relates to the way he has raised his family who are all working in his business empire. At a speech a few years ago in New York City Slim was explaining his life’s work “Many people want to leave a better world for their children,” he told the crowd. “I’m trying to leave better children for my world.”

That difference helps to explain how a family run business has become so successful.
