The Lemons of Life Can Make Lemonade

by Elliott Roberts

Even though life may seem to be filled with negative thoughts, the positive thoughts of life are just as easy to conjure up with the right mind set. Negative thoughts are energy drainers that are quick to turn any positive situation into a dread in no time flat.

Negative thinking is like a disease. It eats away at the potential for pleasant thoughts and becomes more prominent the longer it goes unchecked. For those who succumb to this way of thinking, it becomes natural to find the worst in a situation. So much so, that they often do not even recognize their thoughts as negative. They expect the negative and some would even say that they unwittingly will the negative to happen. These negative thinkers take comfort in knowing what to expect and expecting the worst means they will rarely be disappointed. Ironically even the person who assumes the worst would like for the best to happen in their lives. Let’s explore some possible ways to change habitual thought patterns so even the most profound negative thinkers can find a way to make lemonade out of lemons.

Self-help books will tell you that thinking negative brings about negative energy. There are several studies out now that show that positive thinking can “manifest” positive outcomes. If you are looking for ways to increase your happiness and improve your quality of life, then you must first determine if your thought pattern is part of the detriment to a better life. When life hands you lemons, do you make lemonade or do you complain about how unfair life is? If you are the person who finds the glass half empty instead of half full, then keep reading and hopefully you will find a few answers to help change your habit of negative thinking.

Once a person allows themselves to open up and release those negative thoughts positive thinking is easy. It is often fear, yes fear, that holds us back in the life of positive thinking. When we think positively about situations it often sets the mind up for failure. These failures are more difficult to deal with than the day to day lives of negative thoughts. At least with the negative thoughts, we know what to expect. In order to move from a negative mind set to a positive mind set, all holds on life need to be lifted and confidence in who we are and the abilities we have restored.

Yet another trick to achieving those positive thoughts is confidence. Having confidence in the decisions you make, the achievements both personally and from within your job, the confidence to be all that you can be even if it takes a bit more work than the negative side of life.

Our lives are so very full of things that are positive, we often become blinded to their presence. If ever someone has said the phrase, you don’t know what you have until it is gone, this is exactly the thoughts that should drive your positive thinking. There are so many things in life that are positive achievements. Children, home, job, fitness, all take time and hope and they are all positive and thus hold the positive energy needed to break that negative cycle.

Also, try transferring the energy you spend dreading the inevitable into something more positive. Instead of spending energy on complaining about the fact that you are about to be laid off from the job you hated anyway, put that energy into figuring out how to use this time to create the job you always wanted. We have the power to design our own lives; or if you believe in fate then believe that what has happened has happened for a reason and you only have to look for the positive opportunity that fate is providing.

The next time you have to urge to say something will not happen, swallow that fear and negative expectation then allow yourself to hope that it will happen. You will find that believing in yourself is the key to a more fulfilling life. Increased productivity on the job, a more satisfying relationship, a larger raise or a coveted promotion, a more gratifying social lifeall of these are possible through positive thinking.
