LASIK Eye Surgery
What is LASIK? LASIK is a surgical procedure using a laser, doctor and computer guided, to repair vision. If you decide to look into it, this is what you can expect.
First you will need to see your eye surgeon to see if you are a good candidate to have a LASIK surgery. One of the problems would be refractive instability. If your vision isn’t stable you usually won’t risk a LASIK surgery.
There are other factors that might prevent you from having a surgery of this type. If you have had any eye diseases you would be concerned. Also, any eye injuries could be a consideration.
Getting ready for LASIK surgery will work something like this. If you are a contact wearer, you need to stop wearing them for a designated amount of time before surgery. This is because your contact lenses alter the shape of your cornea.
Infection must be avoided. The day before the surgery you need to stop using all creams, lotions, makeup etc. These things can find their way into your eyes and cause problems.
You will be in surgery for about thirty minutes. This is an out patient procedure. You will need someone to drive you home after surgery.
During the surgery you will be asked to stare at a light. This is not the laser, but a light to keep your eye fixed in one spot while the laser is on. If you can’t stare at a fixed object for at least one minute you might not be eligible for this surgery.
