Once the darling of the internet marketing world, and how almost all advertisements are done. Banner advertisements have been ignored by many internet marketers. However, if you have a content-rich, article based website it is very important to promote your site well and drive quality traffic to the site. One often overlooked method is banner advertisements.

Banner Ads??? Are you Sure?

Banner ads are a good way of getting targeted traffic from a similar type website to come to your own. The monthly fees vary widely from high traffic websites that can run into the thousands of dollars a month, to highly targeted smaller niche websites that might sell the same space for $50 for the year. If you find the right website you might be able to save quite a bit of money versus the equivalent cost of PPC or the time and effort required to get the website optimized for the search engines. One other avenue to look at is, the banner exchange networks. It’s possible to find free banner exchanges, although we’ll look at the benefits of each type of banner ads.

How To Exchange Banners- Free Banner Exchanges

When you use a free banner exchange, you basically exchange banners with another websites banner at no cost. You put their banner on your site, and they’ll put your banner on their site. Now, the attraction to this method is it’s cost. FREE! But, there are some issues with it. First you’re limited to how many exchanges you can do. You can only exchange so many banners before your website starts to get cluttered. Plus you’re opening up the doorway to your web traffic choosing to go somewhere else that isn’t going to make you any money. Also, you should definitely be careful with who you link to. There are some “partners” who end up creating “banner farms” or “link farms” with tons of banners all over their websites. These websites end up doing about nothing for your traffic as there are so many other ways for their traffic to go.

Buying Banner Ads

Using paid banner ads is all about choosing the right website and banner design to make them pay for themselves. You of course need to find a website that has a decent amount of traffic, so you’ll have to get good at analyzing traffic of other people’s websites. Also make sure that your banner is placed in an area of the website that is more likely to invite visitors to click. Usually in the top third of the page is best. Of course be on the look out for excessive banners on the same page, as well as who else is getting links on the same page. Look out for tons and tons of outgoing links as well, as this could dilute the effectiveness of your banner.

A website promotion strategy can be helped with effective banner ad placement. Make sure you place interesting and intriguing ads on quality sites for highest effectiveness. Hopefully the above tips have given you some help to implement your banner ad strategy. Good luck, and happy placement.
