So your polished new iPhone is sitting there looking at you. Can’t you simply hear it whisper, “Unlock me…Unlock me…Unlock me…”? What do you do? How will you unlock your iPhone? What if you don’t want to utilise AT&T, the recognized carrier, for your iPhone service?

The picks today are a couple. Do several Google search for “unlock iPhone” and you are met with hack after hack, software after software, everyone claiming to be the best way to unlock your iPhone. Dig abit deeper, and you would discover tutorials completely talking about jailbreaking, developing the phone for the software, firmware patches, unlocking the SIM-lock, and a lot more.

Its all genuinely complicated stuff, specially when you find out that you will have to unlock your iPhone all again everytime Apple decides to do a base band flashing or upgrade. Could you think being right in the middle of the most critical call of your life, and your iphone locks back up? What if you’re transmitting crucial information to someone at that moment? Is it a chance you want to take? If this occurs to you, you will need to download a few more software to mend your iPhone back the way it was, and then go through the unlocking process once again.

You see, a few of the hacks work on a firmware-patch. This patch bypasses the unlock part of your iPhone so that it doesnt realize it is still, basically, locked. It no longer tells itself that you require to unlock it to utilise it. These firmware patches are considered temporary unlocks, and are often rendered useless by base-band flashing or upgrades.

How To Kill Your Xbox – The Towel Trick Explained

January 17th, 2009 by Marc Sandford

Most quick fix methods for electronics have typically involved subjecting it to some form of abuse. This meant a violent action such as hitting, shaking, or kicking to coax it into functioning again. This works because loose electrical connections can reconnect after enough persistence. But other connections are loosened by the mechanical shock which guarantees more problems later on.

One of the better known fixes for the ring of death error is the towel fix or towel trick. It readily falls into this category of fixing something by abusing it. Instead of mechanical abuse, the remedy involves heating the internal chips at extremely high temperatures so that broken solder points get reconnected and badly warped components get reshaped.

The method to this madness starts with wrapping your Xbox with a few towels. Then you turn on the Xbox for about 15 minutes and you’re finished. Now you’re all set to enjoy some gaming sessions. When the next ring of death error happens you just reapply the trusty towel trick.

If it fixes your Xbox, then what’s wrong with the towel fix? As was mentioned previously, the towel fix cooks the Xbox’s components at very punishing temperatures. Damage caused by excessive heat during manufacture is a major concern in the electronics industry. Getting the correct soldering temperature for a good solder join without damaging chips is a tricky operation.
